You all can (and many of you should) unsubscribe from this newsletter. I will not be mad.
Hello friends. Many years ago I read a book by Seth Godin called Permission Marketing, and the gist was to collect the emails of your fans. So I collected about 140 emails for a Mailchimp newsletter, but I never really posted to it. Later I collected about 70 emails for my Wordpress blog, and I post to that pretty regularly. For people who signed up on Wordpress, what they’ll see here is more of the same—I will now just propagate my emails to you using Substack rather than Wordpress.
But the Mailchimp people are used to getting no emails from me, so I imagine that at least a few of you would like to opt out at this point. That is something you very much should do, because emails will go out to this list around twice a week probably, and they won’t be limited just to updates about book launches and such. I assume there is a link at the bottom of this that lets you unsubscribe. Sorry for taking the step of moving your emails into a new platform, but I never used the Mailchimp, and Wordpress has gotten stale, with a dwindling user base. I also assume at least some of you are interested in keeping up with me.
In terms of reintroducing myself, I am a writer. I write about literature, culture, and the publishing industry. You can see some examples of what I post by going to woman-of-letters.com. Right now I’m reading a lot of Nietzsche, so the next few posts very well could be about Nietzsche.
I also have an MFA in Fiction from Johns Hopkins. I publish poetry, essays, literary stories, sci-fi stories, and young adult novels. I have three books coming out in the next two years. They are:
Just Happy To Be Here - Young Adult, January 2nd, 2024
This is a book about a trans girl, Tara, who goes to a prestigious all-girl’s school (which she loves), but when she joins a secret society based on ancient Roman rituals, all the alumni of the school come after her. It’s the only one of my upcoming books that has a cover, which is huge, so I put it at the end.
Default World and What’s So Great About The Great Books
My other two books right now mostly exist as deal blurbs, but the literary novel is completed and will be out on May 28, 2024, while the nonfiction will be out in 2025 (I hope).
And, finally, my beautiful cover. Thanks to Liam Woods for doing the photography and Catherine Lee for designing the cover.
In any case, even if you decide not to stay, I appreciate that you were ever interested in my career, and I wish you the best!
