Where and how did you promote your book?

Hi author friends. My release date is about a year away at this point, and I'm looking into ways that I can promote my book? What did you all do? It's a YA contemporary novel, so some standard science fiction / fantasy venues and tactics won't be applicable, but I'm still interested in hearing about it.
