I can see that you have a Deep and abiding hatred of BASS. It will pass. Eventually. Probably. I'll tell you when it does for me anyway.

The irony here is that the opposite decision, to immediately call police on the suicidal person, could have just as easily or more so been driven by anger. After all, what happens when someone is hospitalized for suicidal intent? They have no privacy, not even in the bathroom. Staff can hold them down and forcibly inject them in the ass with drugs that make them weak and sick, or put them in restraints for hours. They are locked up for weeks or months with no clear idea of when they'll be released. That would be an interesting premise: the person who does the socially "correct" thing knowing it will hurt their supposed loved one even more.

This was very funny! Thank you. I thought, maybe, the ending should be slightly shorter . . . but really funny story.

It seems to me that one of your central concerns is the contemporary relationship between literature and the university, MFAs, etc. I've just finished a big book of essays about, in part, the fate of the modern university -- watch this space! In the meantime, I look forward to hearing more from you about this. FWIW, I don't think the academy can sustain literature, for reasons you keep suggesting in creative ways.

Oh man, what you wrote about not having the wisdom to figure out a real story for a very important person in your life... and needing to come back for them later... that hits me really hard right now and is something I've struggled with for the novel I've been working on for over a decade... and the whole problem is the story itself, not the characters, and that's why I've put it aside to focus on things that have a real story to them. With every piece, you help me with my own work Naomi, and I thank you sincerely for that!

Unfortunately, I got bored and didn't finish. I'll come back later in hopes of a surprise ending.
